Significant Events:

During the Civil War, General Grant he win the Battle of Vicksburg. This battle was the turning point of the war. Another battle Grant was a general in was the Battle of Shiloh. Even though there was a lot casualties, General Grant won the battle.

General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Grant in Appomattox Court House on April 9th, 1865. Most of you are thinking this means a court house, but it actually is the name of the town.

After the Civil War General Ulysses.S Grant was appointed President

of the United States.

Grant also was a very successful General-in-Chief of the Union Army. Ulysses S. Grant was also appointed Brigadier General by our 16th President Abraham Lincoln.

Why should people know about this individual?

During and after the Civil War Ulysses S. Grant was a very important figure in the North. He was an extraordinary general. He lead many good soldiers to do many good things, such as William Sherman.

Many people looked at him like the logical choice for a Republican President. In the people's eye's he was an outstanding soldier and hero.
